Donation Guidelines

Finger Lakes ReUse accepts quality used and surplus building materials, furniture, housewares, electronics, and much more. Donations are tax deductible and Finger Lakes ReUse will provide a donation receipt for your tax purposes. All items must be complete, clean, and in good usable condition.  Please call (607) 257-9699 to verify acceptable items, as donation policies frequently change without notice based on space availability.


Update 7/25/13: We are temporarily not accepting any donations of tile due to space limitations.

BUILDING MATERIALS

FINGER LAKES REUSE CAN ACCEPT:

We accept a wide variety of building materials in reuseable condition, including lumber, doors, hardware, tools, and much more!

FINGER LAKES REUSE CANNOT ACCEPT:

  • Moisure damaged, cracked, broken, rotted, mildewed, or warped lumber or plywood
  • Lumber shorter than 6’ or plywood less than ½ sheet
  • Incomplete Shower doors
  • Doors with broken panels or cut unevenly
  • Hollow Core Doors
  • Porcelain sinks
  • Windows with missing or broken glass
  • Single light window sashes
  • Cabinets with missing or broken doors
  • Counter tops shorter than 12”
  • Used carpet
  • Partial rolls of tar or felt paper
  • Broken, chipped, or stained tiles, or tiles that have mortar or glue on any side
  • Incomplete aluminum storm doors or windows
  • Hazardous, toxic, or combustible materials such as gasoline, kerosene, etc
  • Chemicals of any kind

  • FURNITURE

    FINGER LAKES REUSE CAN ACCEPT: Most furniture in good, reusable condition with no stains, tears or odors.
    FINGER LAKES REUSE CANNOT ACCEPT: Office cubicles, mattresses, box springs, waterbeds or waterbed accessories, unassembled or broken furniture


    HOME ELECTRONICS

    FINGER LAKES REUSE CAN ACCEPT: Most consumer electronics in reuseable working condition
    FINGER LAKES REUSE CANNOT ACCEPT: TV’s older than 7 years old, cable incompatible TV's, console TV’s, black and white TV’s.

    COMPUTERS & PERIPHERALS

    FINGER LAKES REUSE CAN ACCEPT: Most computers and computer related parts, working or not. Please note: We charge a $5 handling fee for CRT monitors
    FINGER LAKES REUSE CANNOT ACCEPT: Printers or copiers weighing more than 100 pounds, monitors that are cracked or physically damaged 


    SMALL APPLIANCES

    FINGER LAKES REUSE CAN ACCEPT: Most small household appliances in reusable working condition, as long as they are no older than 7 years
    FINGER LAKES REUSE CANNOT ACCEPT: Dehumidifiers, air purifiers, wood panel microwaves, broken appliances, small appliances that are exceptionally dirty or cannot be easily cleaned

    LARGE APPLIANCES

    FINGER LAKES REUSE CAN ACCEPT: Dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, stovetops, ovens, air conditioners in good working condition.
    FINGER LAKES REUSE CANNOT ACCEPT: Broken appliances, appliances that are exceptionally dirty or cannot be easily cleaned.

    HOUSEHOLD & MISCELLANEOUS

    FINGER LAKES REUSE CAN ACCEPT: A wide variety of household goods in clean, reusable, and working condition, including office supplies, gardening supplies, sport/exercise equipment, art work, art and school supplies, healthcare equipment, pet supplies, antiques, collectibles, and more!
    FINGER LAKES REUSE CANNOT ACCEPT:
  • Toys or puzzles
  • Cribs, strollers, car seats
  • Life saving devices such as car seats or booster seats
  • Personal care items such as hairbrushes, nails care items, etc.
  • Clothes or shoes
  • Blankets or bed linens
  • Curtains
  • Venetian blinds
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Books
  • Automotive parts including tires, batteries, engine parts, oil or fluids
  • Recalled products or items*

    Certain items listed above may be donated to other nonprofit programs, or recycled or disposed of at the Tompkins County Solid Waste & Recycling Center, at 122 Commercial Ave, Ithaca. For more information on recycling or disposal in Tompkins County, call (607) 273-6632 or visit recycletompkins.org for further information.

    *The Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits the selling of recalled products, and Finger Lakes ReUse makes every effort to fully comply with these regulations.
